Introduction

Recently, the central team of our Trust took part in an impactful training session focused on integrating a structured chnage methodology into their improvement activity. This training emphasised the value of a systematic approach to enhance the quality, efficiency, and consistency of our work. Led by Matt, this session provided an opportunity for team members to discuss, reflect, and understand how having a clear system in place can drive performance and productivity across all operations.

Why This Training Was Essential

This training aimed to support staff in streamlining their tasks and responsibilities through an organised, step-by-step process. Here’s why it was a priority for our team:

What We Did in the Training

The training covered several key areas designed to build understanding, engagement, and proficiency with the methodology checklist:

  1. Presentation on Values, Culture, and Strategy: Matt kicked off the session with a presentation linking the methodology to our organisation’s core values, culture, and strategic goals. This introduction helped us see how the new process aligns with who we are as a Trust and why it matters for our overall mission.
  2. Exploring the Methodology Document: We delved into the methodology document itself, discussing the importance of each stage. The document follows the ABC rule, guiding us to assess each task for ambiguitybarriers, or complexity before proceeding. This step-by-step approach ensures clarity, identifies challenges early, and prevents potential issues from escalating.
  3. Understanding the 10-Step Process: The checklist includes a comprehensive 10-step process, where each stage encourages a deliberate, reflective approach. Team members learn to think through each task in a structured way, promoting thorough planning and intentional action.
  4. Interactive Workshop on Real-Life Application: The team participated in a hands-on workshop to apply the methodology to real tasks. Each team member identified a current task and mapped it to one of the methodology’s stages, categorising tasks that lacked clarity, had unaddressed obstacles, or required further consideration. Tasks that could not meet all necessary criteria in a particular stage were halted, emphasising the importance of completing each step in sequence to achieve quality results.
  5. Board Exercise for Visual Understanding: In a collaborative exercise, tasks were posted on a board, and team members worked together to categorize them based on their status in the process. This visual exercise highlighted the importance of addressing each step thoroughly before moving forward, fostering shared understanding and collective learning.

Looking Forward

This training is a significant step in fostering a culture of consistency, accountability, and shared responsibility within the Trust. By embedding this methodology into daily workflows, the central team is better equipped to deliver high-quality work while supporting one another. The methodology’s checklist-driven approach not only improves individual productivity but strengthens our organisation’s capacity to meet its goals and maintain the high standards we pride ourselves on.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this training as the team applies these tools in their work, ensuring a workplace environment where tasks are organised, quality is prioritised, and colleagues can rely on each other with confidence.
