Overview of Our Curriculum

Our Approach

Our curriculum takes a broad and balanced approach, whilst being personalised to incorporate our key drivers ‘Aspiration and Diversity’.  The school maps out the key concepts for each subject they intend pupils to learn and this forms the framework in which knowledge and skills are matched at the appropriate stage. Our key knowledge and skills have been carefully selected and personalised to reflect our Drivers ‘Aspiration and Diversity‘ but have also been carefully sequenced to ensure that knowledge and skills build over the child’s time at school.

Concepts are revisited as part of the school’s retrieval strategy and recapped in the design of the knowledge organisers used at the beginning of each topic. This allows pupils to accommodate the forgetting curve and ensures that once they have been taught and understood concepts, they are not disregarded. 
The school has mapped out the progression of knowledge and skills for each subject and each year group. This is referred to by leaders when creating curriculum overviews and staff when ensuring planning matches knowledge requirements during curriculum planning meetings and activity.

we chose Aspiration and Diversity as core values that drive our curriculum, as they reflect the needs of our children and the world they are growing up in.

These 3 curriculum drivers are as follows:

Communication

Communication is the foundation for learning, relationships, and future success. By developing strong speaking, listening, and understanding skills from an early age, we empower children to express themselves clearly, collaborate effectively, and engage confidently with the world around them.

This supports our values of being Ready to learn, Respectful in how we listen and interact, and Safe by creating a caring environment where everyone feels heard and valued.

Strong communication also helps our children become successful learners, able to access and share knowledge, and confident individuals who have the voice and self-belief to thrive in school and beyond.

Aspiration
Inspiring every child to aim high and believe in their potential. By encouraging a mindset of growth and ambition, we help children be Ready to take on challenges, Respectful of their own and others’ efforts, and Responsible in their actions and goals.

Cultivating aspiration supports our learners to become successful, persevering through obstacles, confident individuals who believe in themselves, and responsible citizens ready to make a positive difference in their communities

Diversity
We embrace diversity to create an inclusive community where every child feels Ready to learn, Respectful of differences, and Safe to be themselves.

Celebrating diversity helps children become confident individuals who appreciate others’ perspectives, successful learners enriched by a broad range of ideas and experiences, and responsible citizens who value and contribute positively to their community.

By embracing both values, we equip our children with the confidence, ambition, and understanding they need to succeed in a diverse and ever-changing world. These principles ensure all our students are prepared to thrive.
