Curriculum
Our curriculum takes a broad and balanced approach, whilst being personalised to incorporate our key drivers.
Our approach
At Old Hall Junior School we want to work together as a whole school community to help our children to achieve their potential by providing a nurturing, caring and safe environment where we respect and value each others’ strengths and differences.
Old Hall is a welcoming school, where all children have the opportunity to become successful, happy, confident, independent and responsible learners. We aim for our children to have access to a broad, balance and aspirational curriculum to promote learning which enables all children to be successful.
We want all our pupils to be ambitious, confident and collaborative learners. We have developed our curriculum with exciting learning opportunities based upon our core, underpinning values and curriculum drivers.
Our curriculum intent is underpinned by our vision:
Achieving Success, Inspiring Caring, Enquiring Minds
Our curriculum is designed to inspire a love of learning and ignite curiosity in every child. At its core, it fosters a knowledge-rich environment that encourages independence, resilience, creativity, and critical thinking. It is progressive, building on prior learning to help students deepen their understanding and develop new skills. By connecting new knowledge with what they already know, we enable children to retain and apply what they’ve learned, ensuring they can grow academically and personally.
Teaching and learning are engaging, purposeful, and inclusive, meeting the diverse needs of all students. We aim to challenge every child to reach their full potential, fostering a lifelong passion for learning. We follow the 2014 National Curriculum for Key Stage 2, ensuring a broad and balanced approach across all subjects.
In addition, we provide a wide range of enriching experiences and extracurricular activities designed to stretch children’s potential and prepare them to become responsible, ethical, and compassionate citizens. We are committed to promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of every child.

Our curriculum drivers
We have taken time to assess the needs of our community and have incorporated these elements into our vision for our education and use these as underpinning ‘drivers’ in our curriculum. These three curriculum drivers are as follows:
Acceptance and Inclusion
In everything we do at school and throughout our curriculum, our goal is for all students to feel accepted and to embrace acceptance of others. We aim to teach children to appreciate and celebrate differences, fostering a welcoming environment where everyone is treated with respect and understanding. We want our students to value and be tolerant of the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that make up our communities, recognizing how they enrich us all. Our mission is for pupils to receive an inclusive education that prepares and empowers them to thrive as global citizens.
Integrity
At Old Hall Juniors, we are committed to helping our children develop integrity – doing the right thing even when no one is watching! We want our students to make honest and responsible choices because it’s the right thing to do, and it helps them grow into great citizens. We believe that school plays a crucial role in creating a safe environment where we can nurture integrity, allowing our children to learn and practice these important values.
Resilience
Resilience is key to helping our children thrive and succeed. It means being able to problem-solve, make the most of opportunities, and handle challenges. At Old Hall Junior School, we aim to encourage our children to think independently, learn from their mistakes, and embrace challenges and failures as essential parts of the learning process. By supporting them in understanding how to bounce back from setbacks, we believe we can help build their confidence and make them feel more capable when facing future challenges.
