About LEARNERs' Trust

A message from Matt Freeston, CEO of LEARNERs’ Trust
Welcome to our mission: creating equity of opportunity for all learners by ensuring effective well-being, enriched lives and high levels of achievement.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking interest in a role at the Learners’ Trust – we are a Trust that strives to align our work with our mission, vision and culture every day, and we need great people to help us realise our goals consistently and at all levels. Everyone here has a role in helping create excellent leadership, effective delivery of our mission and early intervention to keep everyone on track.
Secondly, some clarity on why I’ve been here since the beginning and why I’m still here. Having been CEO of the Trust since its inception, I come to work every day and am inspired by the people we collaborate with and the way in which they approach their jobs. My passion to continue the improvements we have made to the Trust, our family of schools, and the life chances of our children is as strong today as it was when we started. I can only satisfy my own sense of purpose by working with wonderful people who know why they are applying to work with the Learners’ Trust, over people who are just applying for a job.
Each school within the Trust has its own mission, vision and culture and each school is supported by the Trust to ensure it achieves those goals, making sure we help school create capacity by removing ambiguity for everyone, barriers that halt progress and complexity that waste time and resources – by doing this we have a family of schools that work collaboratively and are increasingly successful in their adventures.
Our culture is key, and I would urge anyone thinking of applying to work with us to look carefully at how their own personal values align with our explicit culture below – this is the most ‘lived not laminated’ piece of work we have. Sticking closely to our culture allows everyone to feel secure, happy and can trust those around them to work with colleagues to make improvements that reflect ‘how’ we want to work, as much as ‘what’ we want to do.
I’m really proud of the positive feedback we receive about what it is like to work for the Trust, and we continually try to improve the offer we have to our most valuable resource – you!
We truly do care about our people, their success, and their happiness. We like to think we’re playing a part in helping everyone
- Maintain effective well-being through our employee support and enhancement programmes,
- Have enriched lives though our professional development and talent management offer, and
- Achieve their personal and professional goals in life through the coaching and mentoring on offer throughout the Trust.
Finally, I wish you good luck in your application and, once successful, look forward to welcoming you to the Trust and see what amazing things we can accomplish together.
If there is anything we can do to help you gain a deeper understanding of the Trust to support your application, please let me know and we’ll do our best.
